This seems so easy! So many things seem so complicated, I get overwhelmed, and don't even start them. I have always loved to read, but I don't make marginalia or keep a reading journal. I prefer ebooks for various reasons, but I am currently reading 2 physical books and I am starting this system now. I even have the tabs and know where they are lol. Thank you so much for this.

Interesting method. I have seen many different styles but this is the first time I have seen this particular method.

Hey man, this was cool to read and think about trying out.

I’m struck by your identification of five as a human scale number. In gardening, a good rule of thumb is to plant groups of the same plant in odd numbers because that’s what most pleasing to the eye; evens give too regimented a look, leading to lack of flow for the eye to rove over. I tend to go with fives.

Depending on the length of book I feel like a starting tab and a bookmark are the main ones I use, but in these longer works five tabs help keep things on a human scale. Thanks for bringing up the analogy of fives in visual design and gardening.

Not sure if saw the link in there, but here’s a post when talk quite a bit about places fives show up: https://armchairnotes.substack.com/p/pentatonic-vowels
