When the time comes for me to close the cover on a reading session, I have rituals to make sure important insights or experiences from my reading have a chance to settle into my life.
Gladly. In my reading logs I pretty much just use a plus sign (+) for a main point, and then I use dashes (-) for supporting points. If there's something that really stands out when I review, I'll circle it. Otherwise, I might use the symbols I from my marginalia:
☆: A star is The Main Point,
✓: A check is An Important Point
– : A dash is a Mere point
× : An x is definitely Not the Point
꩜ : A spiral means things are getting Absurd, or unraveling
! : An exclamation point signifies a Surprise or Event
This seems so doable, thank you Sam. Could you say a few words about the symbols in your notes? What kind of entries do they signify?

I have a whole post on marginalia symbols here: https://armchairnotes.substack.com/p/marginalia-and-symbols-armchair-method
Finally, this is how I review my Reading Logs periodically: https://armchairnotes.substack.com/p/reviewing-reading-logs-armchair-method
Thank you! So helpful—I’m always changing mine and forgetting later what they mean! 🫠
